Soccer Linesman Assaults Player, Banned For Life [Video]

A Chechan linesman has been banned from the game for the rest of his life after he assaulted a player at the final whistle.

The game he was officiating was a Russian reserve league match between Amkar Perm and Terek. But upon the sound of the final whistle, Musa Kadyrov dropped his flag and began to punch and kick an 18-year-old defender.

The defender’s teammates then swooped in to stop the battle, however Terek players soon began to get involved in the fracas too.

The player told the Guardian, “The ref blew the whistle and I started walking to our bench, when suddenly someone came from behind, pushed me to the ground and began kicking and punching me.”

He then added, “Terek players then joined the attack. Someone grabbed me by the throat, another hit me… bloodying my face.”

“Thank God, my team mates came to the rescue Special thanks to Vlasov from Terek,” continued the defender. ” We had know each other from a youth academy in St Petersburg and he helped me escape.”

Chechan soccer chief, Lom-Ali Ibragimov, stated, “He has only worked on regional level but we made a decision to ban him for life, therefore he won’t be able to officiate matches at any level.”

However the Russian players’ union has asked for further punishments to be handed out to Terek.

“We feel just banning Kadyrov is not enough. The RFU must take a much tougher stance on this because assaults on players have become an almost regular occurrence in Grozny,” remarked Nikolai Grammatikov, the RSFT general secretary.

He then concluded, “We think preventing Terek to host reserve matches in Grozny for a year should teach Chechen authorities a lesson, otherwise it is just going to get worse and worse.”
