Sarah Palin’s Nerd Prom Tweet Mocks WHCD


Poor Sarah Palin wasn’t invited to the “nerd prom,” or so it would appear from her snitty tweet after the 2013 White House Correspondents’ Dinner Saturday night.

Palin’s nerd prom crack resonated after she tweeted late Saturday night:

“That #WHCD was pathetic. The rest of America is out there working our asses off while these DC assclowns throw themselves a #nerdprom.”

The term used by Palin, “nerd prom,” is a long-time self-effacing joke politics watchers employ about the hotly anticipated event, generally an in-joke and never a straight insult. But Palin also seemed to insinuate that the nerd prom had been a waste of taxpayer time or dollars, or somehow an insult to working Americans.

Reaction to Palin’s nerd prom tweet and use of the term “assclowns” was generally met with one of two sentiments — mockery, given Palin’s poor track record in stick-to-it-iveness, and amusement, at her mild swears.

Many tweeters took the Palin nerd prom bait, with one quipping:

“I agree with @SarahPalinUSA. Those DC assclowns need to prioritize things like forcing their daughters to dance with The Situation on ABC.”

But famous Twitter users got in on the joke as well, with Judd Apatow replying to Palin’s tweet:
