Jeffrey Wright was arrested for DWI in New York City on Saturday.
Authorities explained that the actor was pulled over in the early hours of the morning. He was behind the wheel of a Toyota Tacoma at around 3 am when police stopped him for a traffic violation.
Officers detected alcohol on Jeffrey Wright’s breath when they approached him about the traffic stop. After he failed a field sobriety test, Wright was arrested for driving while intoxicated.
The actor was taken to the 7th Precinct station house for processing. The charges were still pending against Wright as of Saturday afternoon.
Although it’s officially unclear why police decided to pull him over, a source explained to the New York Daily News that Wright was driving erratically through the streets of New York.
“He was speeding and nearly caused an accident,” the insider revealed.
The New York City Police Department has yet to release an official statement about Jeffrey Wright’s arrest. It’s also unclear if he is still in custody.
Although a lot of people don’t know the actor by name, chances are they’ve seen him several times on the big screen. The actor landed his first role in director Alan J. Pakula’s 1990 legal thriller Presumed Innocent. Wright appeared alongside Harrison Ford in the film.
The actor has appeared in several notable motion pictures over the years. Included in his extensive filmography are Ang Lee’s Ride with the Devil, Michael Almereyda’s Hamlet, and the remake of Shaft starring Samuel L. Jackson and Christian Bale.
Wright recently appeared in Source Code, The Ides of March, and Broken City. He portrayed Muddy Waters in writer-director Darnell Martin’s Cadillac Records. The actor can be seen next in the upcoming sequel The Hunger Games: Catching Fire.
