House of Cards star Corey Stoll has landed a role on the upcoming Guillermo del Toro FX series The Strain.
The actor played the part of Peter Russo on the hit Netflix series. For his next role, the actor will portray a doctor who is charged with stopping a viral outbreak that can turn people in vampires.
The Strain is based on a trilogy of books co-written by del Toro and Chuck Hogan. Both men will write the series for FX. The Pacific Rim director will helm the pilot episode.
Lost executive producer Carlton Cuse is assisting with development of the series. Although del Toro will oversee the project, Cuse will serve as the showrunner. FX has already ordered a pilot, so more casting details should start surfacing very shortly.
Guillermo del Toro explained that finding the right person to portray the lead character was an important part of the creative process. He added:
“To be able to secure the perfect actor in Corey Stoll sets the project on the right track. To embody a character like Ephraim Goodweather — who transitions through every emotion and situation imaginable and who anchors the narrative of the series — requires amazing talent and craft. Corey has both in spades, as he has demonstrated over and over again.”
Prior to his stint on House of Cards, Corey Stoll played Detective Tomas “TJ” Jaruszalski on the short-lived television series Law & Order: L.A.. He has also appeared in the movies The Bourne Legacy, Salt, and Woody Allen’s Midnight in Paris.
This isn’t the only television series Guillermo del Toro currently has in development. The busy filmmaker recently announced that he was adapting the manga series Monster for the folks at HBO. Del Toro is also working on a haunted house flick called Crimson Peak with Emma Stone.
