Mark Wahlberg On Reuniting With The Funky Bunch For Boston: ‘Why Not?’ [Video]

The Boston bombing has hung like a dark cloud over actor Mark Wahlberg’s head since last Monday, but could the attack prove to be what it takes to finally get the Pain and Gain star to reunite with the Funky Bunch? Not so fast, Internet.

TMZ was first to report the news, after which dozens of other publications hog-piled on. It’s big news after all – After hitting its peak in 1991, the group disbanded two years later in 1993, and though some of the original members continue to release music on their own, rumors of a potential reunion have never really gone anywhere.

But now, despite two decades and a successful film career, Wahlberg is apparently thinking of doing a reunion as a benefit concert for the Boston bombing victims.

“Mark,” a TMZ reporter asked, “would you ever do a once-in-a-lifetime concert for the victims of Boston?”

“Absolutely,” Wahlberg shoots back.

“As Marky Mark and the Fun Bunch?”

Awkward silence and stare.

“Funky Bunch,” corrects Wahlberg. “Close.”

But then he says: “Why not?”

Someone get Scottie Gee, DJ-T, Ashey Ace, and Hector the Booty Inspector on the horn!

We’ll get to video in a bit, but we’re not the first publication to cast some doubt on the possibility of a Marky Mark and the Funky Bunch reunion actually happening.

MSN notes that rumors were floated earlier just this year, but nothing came of it. Additionally, they add, how much could such a reunion realistically raise? You’d think Wahlberg could knock out a pretty substantial donation himself … or possibly organize his own concert/benefit for his hometown.

Wahlberg’s “why not?” is pretty flippant, too. Sure, he has nothing to lose by doing a reunion, but he also has nothing to gain, and in the end … honestly … neither does Boston.

So we doubt it. But here’s the video of Wahlberg teasing the possibility, which is worth a watch just to see the look he shoots the confused TMZ correspondent. He might not ever reunite with the Funky Bunch again, but you better not disrespect a man’s roots!
