4 Children Killed In Mobile Home Fire Identified

The names of 4 children killed in a mobile home fire in South Carolina yesterday have been confirmed by family members. The victims, identified as siblings, were all under the age of five.

The 4 children were killed Wednesday afternoon when a fire ripped through their mobile home in Hartsville. According to relatives, the blaze claimed the lives of 4-year-old Delonta Dixon, 3-year-old Camaron Hawkins-Mason, and 1-year-old twin girls Ky’nasia and My’asia Hawkins-Mason.

“They were beautiful. Two boys, two girls. When they come around, they just light up everything,” explained the children’s grief-stricken aunt, Janice Hawkins.

She tearfully described her nieces and nephews as happy kids with colorful personalities, known and loved by their community.

“It’s just like a world was taken,” Hawkins said of the terrible loss. “I feel like a shell of a person because of this tragedy and anybody that loses kids, can understand.”

It’s unclear if the 4 children were alone inside the mobile home when the fire began shortly before 2 pm on Wednesday.

A neighbor, who wished to remain anonymous, told reporters that she was alerted to the fire when heard a booming noise and rushed outside to investigate.

Realizing that the mobile home was on fire, she ran toward the residence, hoping to rescue the 4 children. However, flames shooting from the home’s window thwarted her attempts to get inside the structure. She quickly reported the blaze to emergency services as a second neighbor tried to extinguish the fire with a garden hose.

Firefighters, arriving on scene minutes later, were unable to rescue the 4 children due to the magnitude of the mobile home fire. “We tried to get in there and get them out as soon as we could, but they were gone before we could get to them,” explained Hartsville mayor and volunteer fireman Mel Pennington. “It’s the worst thing in the world when innocent, sweet children lose their life.”

The cause of the tragic mobile home fire is currently under investigation by the State Law Enforcement Division in conjunction with the local sheriff’s department. At this time, no charges have been filed in connection with the incident and evidence of foul play has not been confirmed or denied by officials.

Authorities intend to speak with the siblings’ mother, who responders confirmed was in the front yard of the home when they arrived. Autopsies on the 4 children killed in the mobile home fire are expected to be conducted on Thursday.
