Dwayne Johnson Has Emergency Surgery, Misses ‘Pain And Gain’ Premiere

Dwayne Johnson had emergency surgery following an injury he sustained at Wrestlemania earlier this month. This caused him to miss the premiere of his new movie Pain and Gain.

The actor was hurt while squaring off against Jon Cena at the WWE event. Johnson, who tweeted a snapshot of himself in the hospital, is “on the mend” after undergoing abdominal surgery.

Dwayne Johnson was scheduled for the emergency surgery after he suffered three hernial tears during his championship match at Wrestlemania. His representative explained to the folks at E! Online that he will miss the premiere of his upcoming flick Pain and Gain as a result.

Director Michael Bay joked about Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson’s absence from the premiere during the red carpet event. He explained that the actor was simply “pushing it too hard.” He added: “He needs to grow up and stop wrestling 300-pound men.”

Pain and Gain finds the wrestler co-starring with Mark Wahlberg as bodybuilders who find themselves wrapped up in an extortion plot that goes haywire. The film is based on a true story.

While most people might be a little concerned about having to undergo emergency surgery, Johnson seemed to be in pretty good spirits about the whole thing. His tweets leading up to the procedure suggested that he was taking the whole thing in stride.

“In the middle of last night’s Wrestlemania match I tore my abdomen & abductor muscles off the bone. Just part of the job,” he wrote on Twitter following the popular event.

He tweeted before the procedure, “Saw my doctor who had to push my intestines back through the tear in my abdomen. Kinda romantic. Surgery is next week.” The post included the hashtag #BringItOn.

Dwayne Johnson is expected to fully recover from his emergency surgery. Fans can check out his new movie Pain and Gain in theaters beginning April 26.
