Burglary Suspect Uses Baby As Shield In Police Standoff

A burglary suspect used his baby as a shield in a police standoff in Estacada, Oregon. Raleigh Reynolds is accused of holding his 7 month-old-son in front of himself as he was surrounded by police over the weekend.

The Clackamas County Sheriff”s Office received a report of a burglary in progress on Clackamas Way. When they arrived to the scene, they observed the suspect running into another home.

As reported by KPTV News, Reynolds barricaded himself in the home and refused to leave. A woman eventually came outside, stating that she was the suspects sister. Police report that Reynolds started to leave the home several times, but kept running back inside.

The suspect eventually walked out of the home, toward the officers. Unfortunately the burglary suspect was using a baby as a shield. Reynolds held his infant son in front of himself as he approached the police surrounding the home.

Negotiators were able to convince Reynolds to hand over the baby and surrender to police. Thankfully, the baby was unharmed.

Raleigh Reynolds is no stranger to Oregon authorities. Last month he was involved in another unusual incident as he but-dialed 911 during a drug deal.

As reported by KSDK News, 911 dispatchers were startled to receive a call from Reynolds’ cell phone as he participated in a drug deal. Officials were able to track his location using GPS.

When approached by police, Reynolds denied having a functioning cell phone, but dispatchers were still listening, and recording, as the line was still open.

On that occasion, Reynolds was arrested on felony drug charges.

Most recently, Reynolds has charged with obstruction official business, resisting arrest, and child endangerment for using his baby as a shield in the standoff. He is currently incarcerated in the Clackamas County Jail awaiting arraignment.

Authorities report that Reynolds’ son was unharmed during the incident, and has been released to the care of family members.
