Nintendo Media Summit 2009: The best of the rest

Today is sort of Nintendo Day on The Inquisitr’s gaming section, but for good reason: the Japanese company is holding its annual San Francisco Media Summit, which is positively exploding with news.

You’ll probably already know about the North American launch plans for the Nintendo DSi XL. And I imagine many of you have heard about the release date announcement for Super Mario Galaxy 2 (feast your eyes on this epic trailer). Well, this post is for the rest of the news to emerge from the event. Call them scraps all you like, but I still grinned like an idiot when I heard most of these:

– Nintendo has finally dated Metroid: Other M, the first Metroid to ever be developed outside of Nintendo. It’ll be out on June 27th, and is already strongly reeking of awesome. [Via Kotaku]

– Treasure’s run ‘n gun gem Sin Punishment 2 is making it to North America (where it will be renamed Sin Punishment: Star Successor) on June 7th. [Via Joystiq]

– Nintendo announced it would be taking over publishing duties in North America for Square Enix’s RPG Dragon Quest IX, which has already sold around 900,000,000,000 copies in Japan. That’s coming in summer 2010. [Via Siliconera]

– And Picross 3D is coming for the Nintendo DS (or DSi, or DSi XL, or whatever). I was totally hooked on the original version of this fierce puzzler (which was in 2D). The extra dimension is set to make my brain gooey. [Via Destructoid]

– Capcom’s Monster Hunter Tri, another phenomenon in Japan, got dated for North American Wiis – March 8th. Should be interesting to see how that fares – previous Monster Hunters have barely left a dent on American wallets, but it’s undeniably huge in the East. [Via Go Nintendo]

– Nintendo also showed us Disney’s Guilty Party, a series of whodunit-style mini-games for the Wii, and due in the second half of 2010. Catch the first trailer below. It’s, uh, “musical.” [Via Joystiq]

Okay, to end on a positive note, Metroid: Other M’s trailer from June last year:
