Craig Neal’s Wife Accused Of Battery

University of New Mexico coach Craig Neal’s wife has been accused of battery after grabbing a high school official at a basketball game.

Eldorado High School assistant principal Susan Stanojevic claims the incident took place during a February 21 game at the school. Stanojevic told authorities that Janet Neal grabbed her by the arm and yanked her during the alleged confrontation.

Neal became upset after the assistant principal said that Coach Neal’s wife made verbally abusive remarks about the school’s referees during another game. The couple’s son plays basketball for the high school.

“At the same time, she put her face close to mine and in an angry, loud voice, stated, ‘the next time you want to accuse me of using profanity at a basketball game, you need to talk to me first,'” Stanojevic explained to police.

If Craig Neal’s wife is charged with battery, then should could spend up to 18 months behind bars. The case is currently being reviewed by the Bernalillo County district attorney.

Albuquerque Public Schools officers got involved in the situation after Janet allegedly grabbed the assistant principal. When she was told to leave the premises, Neal originally refused.

“I then advised (Mrs.) Neal she could leave in handcuffs or on her own. That was up to her,” the officer said in his report.

Although Craig Neal said in a statement released through his attorney on Friday that the situation had been resolved privately, it would seem that the district attorney currently has other plans.

“At a high school basketball game last season, my wife Janet was involved in a discussion with the assistant principal. We went through the proper channels within the school system to resolve the issue and put the issue to rest,” the University of New Mexico coach said in a statement.
