Steven Tyler Misses ‘Idol,’ Strangely Desires To Work With Nicki Minaj

Aerosmith frontman Steven Tyler misses his gig weighing potential pop stars on American Idol, and imagines a judges’ dream team of himself, Randy Jackson, and … Nicki Minaj?

Tyler told Australian website FasterLouder that he misses his old job on Idol, which he departed last summer after two seasons judging contestants with Jennifer Lopez and Randy Jackson.

Though there seemed to be no love lost when he left the talent competition, he admits that after watching the new season, he does sometimes pine for his old post.

“I miss it. I miss J.Lo and Randy. It was a hoot. It gave me something to do for six months,” Tyler said.

“During the second year I was doing American Idol, we were doing an album, and then we started touring with Aerosmith, and I had to call it quits. Two years was beautiful. J.Lo loved it. I loved it. Randy was great, especially sitting next to J.Lo every night, being close to that fire. She’s beautiful. I do miss it.”

Tyler also seemed to put in a bid for a return to the show, but only if the judge’s dais consists of himself, Jackson, and newcomer Nicki Minaj.

“I like Mariah … and I’m a big fan of Keith (Urban), but if you really think about it, you want some drama. Put me in a room with Nicki. Put me in a room with Nicki! I wish it was Randy, me and Nicki Minaj. It would’ve been a hoot.”

Tyler is likely referring to his much-publicized beef with Minaj just before the new season of Idol got going. After rumors of a feud between Minaj and Mariah Carey broke out, Tyler opined (harshly) that they should drop their drama and focus on contestants.

Minaj responded by branding Tyler a “racist” on Twitter. Tyler responded with a pseudo-apology, but mostly just insisted that he’s not a racist.

So … yeah. That would be a fun judge’s panel.

Are you a fan of Steven Tyler? Do you think it would be fun to see him on American Idol again, but with Nicki Minaj?
