‘Pitch Perfect’ Sequel Aims For 2015 Release

Are you ready to get a ca-awesome for the second time? Prepare yourself, because Universal is going in for a second time for Pitch Perfect 2. It’s certainly not a surprise that Universal would want to have a repeat performance for a successful box office smash. Pitch Perfect proved to be a hit and raked in 65 million for the studio.

This isn’t the first time talk of a Pitch Perfect sequel have been in the mix. Earlier Universal revealed that they set up preliminary plans for a sequel. Break out star Rebel Wilson had a great turn as MTV Movie Awards host, so on the heels of that gig, Universal made their plans official.

Today Universal announced at CinemaCon that Pitch Perfect 2 is definitely happening and will drop into theaters in 2015. No word on whether leads Anna Kendrick or Rebel Wilson will return to the film, but we can safely assume that they will as the two seemed very excited to mesh their acting chops with their vocal abilities.

Another hint that the cast is up for a second round of a capella fun goes back to a December interview from star Skylar Astin when he hinted at a sequel. At the time he said, “I do have a meeting with a Universal representative next week. And I know that Rebel Wilson had hers last weekend. It’s definitely a talking point.”

Since Pitch Perfect, Anna Kendrick has enjoyed a career boost. The film has made people aware that the once Tony nominated child actress, still has those musical talents. In addition to launching a music video for her Pitch Perfect song “Cups,” the actress will be seen in the film adaptation to the off Broadway musical The Last 5 Years.

Universal hasn’t released if they’ll go back to Barden University, either way it will be interesting to see how Universal plans to weave a college a capella group into a sequel.
