Joel McHale To Join Drew Barrymore, Adam Sandler In Romantic Comedy

Joel McHale is reportedly in talks with the folks at Warner Bros. to join Drew Barrymore and Adam Sandler in an upcoming project.

The Warner Bros. movie will bring Barrymore and Sandler back together again for another love story. The two previously worked together on the hit romantic comedies The Wedding Singer and 50 First Dates. Frequent Sandler collaborator Frank Coraci will direct the film.

The star of NBC’s Community will portray Drew Barrymore’s ex-husband in the film. Although Joel McHale is likely to sign on for the comedy, nothing has been set in stone as of this writing.

The as-of-yet-untitled romantic comedy finds Adam Sandler and Drew Barrymore embarking on a blind date. The pair’s romantic issues are soon compounded when they find themselves trapped in a resort with the children they had from previous relationships.

Joel McHale has been a very busy man in recent months. In addition splitting his time between Community and The Soup, the actor is currently filming A Friggin’ Christmas Miracle. The holiday flick also stars Robin Williams, Oliver Platt, and Lauren Graham.

Directed by Tristram Shapeero, the film follows a guy who drives around on Christmas Eve looking for presents for his kids. The movie is expected to arrive later this year.

It’s currently unclear if McHale and the rest of the cast from the NBC comedy will return for a fifth season. Not only did the program lose Chevy Chase last year, the show also suffered from a serious decrease in ratings. The network has yet to announce its decision.

Joel McHale May Star In Adam Sandler Flick

McHale told Larry King last year that he and Chase remain friends despite his very public departure from Community. Although the Saturday Night Live veteran said he didn’t like the direction the show was headed, McHale stated that Chase’s biggest complaint was with his schedule.
