Tommy Lee Jones Film ‘The Homesman’ Welcomes Hailee Steinfeld

Tommy Lee Jones’ latest film The Homesman has added True Grit‘s Hailee Steinfeld to the cast, according to a report from Deadline on Wednesday.

Steinfeld stole the show from co-stars Jeff Bridges, Matt Damon, and Josh Brolin in the 2010 update to the famous John Wayne film, which was based on Charles Portis’ novel of the same name.

With The Homesman, Steinfeld is back on the frontier playing a “poor, simple, and barefooted teenager named Tabitha Hutchinson,” the website stated.

The plot will focus on a man (Jones) helping a pioneer woman (Hilary Swank) escort a trio of insane women across the prairie to civilization.

No idea on whether Steinfeld will play one of those insane women, nor do we have a clue why the trip is a necessary one, but we’re confident the script, penned by Jones, will make sense of it all. (Maybe.)

In addition to Steinfeld and Swank, Tommy Lee Jones will re-team with Meryl Streep for The Homesman. The two last played opposite one another in 2012’s romantic comedy Hope Springs.

Jones hasn’t tried his hand at writing since the 1995 TV film The Good Old Boys. Prior to that, he held a writing credit for a monologue portion of the 1978 thriller Eyes of Laura Mars, according to his resume at IMDb.

As for Hailee Steinfeld, the 16-year-old has a busy year planned, especially when you consider she’s kept a low profile since receiving her Oscar nomination for Best Supporting Actress in True Grit.

In 2013, she has a total of five projects lined up, including Three Days to Kill with Kevin Costner and the big screen adaptation of Orson Scott Card’s Ender’s Game, which should hit screens this November.

Three Days to Kill is an actioner written by Luc Besson (The Professional) and Adi Hasak.

In the film, Costner will play a dying Secret Service agent trying to reconnect with his daughter only to get a chance at saving his life in exchange for one last mission.

(Steinfeld will play the daughter, of course.)

In Ender’s Game, Steinfeld has won the major role of Petra Arkanian. She is also slated to breathe life into the female half of this year’s Romeo and Juliet.

So if you’ve forgotten her since True Grit — and how could you, just watch the video clip — get ready to see a lot more from Steinfeld this year.
