Boris Diaw’s ‘Harlem Shake’ Take: Watch ‘Lego Shake’ [Video]

Boris Diaw has released his own version of the “Harlem Shake.”

Diaw, who plays forward/center for the NBA San Antonio Spurs, executive produced the “Harlem Shake” video embedded below which he calls “Lego Shake” since it obviously makes use of Lego pieces.

Diaw is the artistic director for Babac Films, and this is apparently his company’s first offering. Boris Diaw’s full name is Boris Babacar Diaw-Riffiod.

The “Harlem Shake” — perhaps the “Gangnam Style” of 2013 — is an internet fad that’s gone viral. Typically, amateur videographers begin “Harlem Shake” videos with one person dancing (often masked) in the foreground while others go about their normal activities in the background; after a short spurt of lonely, comical dancing, the bass drops and madness ensues as everyone in frame springs in to an odd pose to strut their stuff usually wearing weird costumes.

Although there are thousands of such videos on the internet, the “Harlem Shake” in general perhaps doesn’t seem to have the same staying power as “Gangnam Style,” however. On YouTube, Babac Films (perhaps Diaw himself) acknowledged that “I know I’m kind of late with the Harlem Shake and everybody was bored with it, but as you could guess, it took us a little time…”

Boris Diaw began his NBA career with the Atlanta Hawks in 2003 as a first-round draft pick after playing pro ball in France for several years. In 2005, he was traded to the Phoenix Suns. He was again traded to the Charlotte Bobcats in 2008. In 2011, he went home to France and played there during the NBA lockout. He has been a member of the Spurs since 2012 after the Bobcats waived him.

How do think Boris Diaw’s “Lego Shake” compares to the “Harlem Shake Lego Avengers” version? Do you agree that Babac Films is a little late to the party when it comes to the “Harlem Shake”? Should Boris Diaw keep his night job with the Spurs?
