Robert Griffin III’s Jersey Sets Sales Record

Robert Griffin III had a pretty good rookie season. He sat an NFL record for a rookie quarterback with a 102.4 rating, was named the Rookie of the year and earned a trip to the Pro Bowl. RG III’s jersey was also the top selling jersey of the season.

According to ESPN, more Griffin III jerseys were sold during the last fiscal year than any other jersey in NFL history. Brett Favre’s jersey with the Minnesota Vikings is the second best selling jersey for a single season.

The exact sales numbers from April 1, 2012 to March 1, 2013, were not released by the league but NFL News reports that RG III’s jersey outsold Peyton Manning, Ray Lewis, and Colin Kaepernick.

Griffin wrote on Twitter: “When you appreciate everything life has to give, each gift is more humbling than the last. Thank you to the fans for the support.”

Tim Tebow’s jersey started the year as the hottest item at the NFL.com shop but sales of the New York Jets quarterback’s jersey fell sharply during the season. Tebow didn’t see a lot of playing time this year and which probably hurt his sale numbers. Still, the Jets quarterback’s jersey ended the year in 13th well ahead of fellow QB Mark Sanchez who didn’t crack the top 25.

Griffin III saw his season end last year with a knee injury. The Redskins quarterback is currently in rehab and is said to be way ahead of schedule. The Redskins doctor, who called RG III “super human,” said that Griffin could be ready by the start of the season.
