John Cena Wins WWE Championship At Wrestlemania 29

John Cena won the WWE Championship at Wrestlemania 29 over the weekend.

The veteran wrestler and action movie star squared off against Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson for the title on Sunday. This marks the 11th time Cena has won the championship belt and the 13th time he’s claimed a WWE world title.

John Cena’s win over The Rock is certainly good news for the wrestler’s fans. He previously lost to the G.I. Joe: Retaliation star at last year’s Wrestlemania 28.

It’s currently believed that The Rock may have a rematch clause in his contract in case he lost the match. Given the amount of people who showed up to see the two titans throw down in the ring, chances are the pair will meet up against at some point down the road.

The scheduled showdown between Cena and Johnson was enough to draw countless wrestling fanatics to the MetLife Stadium on Sunday. The WWE stated that over 80,000 people were in attendance. The organization also said the event grossed a staggering $12.3 million.

New Jersey Governor Chris Christie opened the event with a short piece about Superstorm Sandy. He was also quick to praise the WWE for putting together such a spectacular event.

“On behalf of the great state of New Jersey, I want to thank all of the fans that came from around the world to beautiful MetLife Stadium for WrestleMania 29. WWE put on a show like no other and electrified the capacity crowd,” he told the crowd.

While fans are still discussing the showdown between John Cena and The Rock, many have already set their sights on the next event. WrestleMania 30 will take place at Mercedes-Benz Superdome in New Orleans on April 6, 2014. If you haven’t already made plans to attend, then you might want to do so as soon as possible.
