Bank Robber Fails Twice After Confusing Tellers With Note

An alleged bank robber, whose note demanding money was too confusing for his intended victims to decipher, was involved in two failed bank robbery attempts last week.

According to police, Maurice Fearwell attempted to rob two separate Washington, D.C., banks last Monday. However, the unsuccessful robber was forced to walk away empty-handed when bank tellers could not understand the handwritten note he presented to them.

Fearwell’s first attempt occurred at SunTrust Bank around 11:25 am on Monday. He allegedly entered the institution and approached a female teller with a note that simply read, “100s 50s 20s 10s.”

The would-be robber then uttered a single word, “money.”

According to court documents, the teller was confused by the note and returned it to Fearwell. He apparently attempted to clarify his intentions by adding “all mona” to the bottom of the paper.

The SunTrust employee still didn’t understand the bank robber’s request. She reportedly explained to Fearwell that she was unable to help him and turned him away.

The unidentified teller, still unaware that she was involved in an attempted hold-up, was clued in by a nearby customer after Fearwell left the bank.

The alleged bank robber was apparently not ready to admit defeat. According to police, he immediately decided to try his luck at another bank located just a few blocks away.

Twenty minutes after leaving SunTrust, the alleged bank robber entered a Bank of America branch. Fearwell allegedly approached another female teller with the same confusing note.

The woman initially thought Fearwell was an innocent customer. However, when the suspected bank robber verbally stated, “What’s on that,” while gesturing at the note, she realized his intentions.

The teller quickly alerted security as Fearwell escaped on foot. He was soon apprehended by police a mere three blocks from his alleged second robbery attempt. He was taken into custody and charged with two counts of attempted bank robbery.

During a court hearing on Thursday, a judge decided that Fearwell should remain in custody pending a psychiatric evaluation. The allegedly unsuccessful bank robber is scheduled to appear before the court again later this week.

Are you surprised the alleged bank robber’s confusing note foiled both of his robbery attempts? Do you think he seems mentally unstable?
