13 year old commits to USC

Coach Lane Kiffin is setting his sights on future players for the USC Trojans.

Like, way in the future- including a 13-year-old boy, David Sills of Bear, Delaware. Sills is said to have a skill set that’s “off the charts,” and while recruiting at that age has been seen in baseball, it’s highly unusual for football due to the uncertainty surrounding a player’s physical development. But Steve Clarkson, Sills’ personal coach, says that the interest in Sills’ abilities is definitely wise:

“You might call me crazy, but you’ve known me a long time, right? And when I said if there was going to be a LeBron James of football it’d be Jimmy Clausen that turned out to be a pretty good prediction.

“And when I said Matt Barkley had the potential to be as good as Jimmy, he ended up winning Gatorade Player of the Year as a junior and starting at USC as a freshman, right?

“Well, I’ve got a kid now who is better than all of them and he’s in Delaware. You gotta take a look at him.”

Clarkson says that the boy, a seventh grader at Red Lion Christian Academy in Bear, shouldn’t be a concern as far as physical development goes:

“He’s already six feet as a 13-year old,” Clarkson said. “And he’s breaking down NFL footage.”

The video below, making the YouTube rounds with football fans, is said to have influenced Kiffin’s decision to pursue the boy for a 2015 commitment.
