Urban Dictionary gets a boost from this week’s Facebook status trend

Facebook status trends are a meme unto themselves, with endless new “repost this” things popping up as people apparently ran out of their own boring thoughts to post as a Facebook status.

The status update memes have ranged from slacktivism (on healthcare reform, breast cancer and Haiti) to more self-centered stuff like last week’s push to change profile pics to a celebrity doppelganger. This week, the fad involves looking up your name on Urban Dictionary and posting the first definition that comes up. A cursory search on Urban Dictionary seems to indicate that a lot of these entries may have been added in response to the Facebook status trend.

Some examples of Urban Dictionary name definitions using my fellow writers as examples follow, starting with Duncan (spelling and grammatical errors left intact to preserve the Urban Dictionary experience):

Duncan is the best type in the whole entire world. With outstanding good looks and amazing intelligence ( not to mention an amazing body). Has many desirable qualities such as courage, caring and protective. Looks out for friends and family ( and pets) and is the coolest guy in the whole world =)

Awwww isn’t Duncan the best <3

James:

Someone who is un usually well hung. People with the name James are generally known for their good looks (especially the eyes) and women are just simply attracted to them.

“Oh Yeah, he’s definately a James”

Some are more concise, like Steven:

Sexy, Cool, Swave and Sophisticated

“Your Such A Steven!”
