‘Evil Dead’ Expected To Top This Weekend’s Box Office

The remake of Sam Raimi’s classic horror flick Evil Dead is expected to top this weekend’s box office.

If horror fans decide to show their support for the flick over the next three days, then analysts believe the movie could pull in approximately $25 million when all is said and done. This could place it above G.I. Joe Retaliation, which is expected to make around $20 million.

Box office expert Jeff Brock told MTV News:

“The latest ‘Evil Dead’ received bloody-drippin’ great reviews when it premiered at SXSW Film Festival this year and has been buzzing like Ash’s trusty sidekick ever since. From the looks of it right now, Sony’s reboot may be headed toward a rip-roaring debut of $25 million, which is why many involved are already discussing sequels.”

The movie is already off to a pretty solid start; the Evil Dead remake generated around $1.8 million from Thursday evening and midnight screenings.

Director Fede Alvarez’s reboot of the classic horror flick currently has a Rotten Tomatoes score of 62 percent. The audience score is perched at a more positive 82 percent. However, these negative critiques aren’t likely to keep fans away from theaters this weekend.

Box Office Mojo estimates that the DreamWorks animated comedy The Croods will continue to lure families to theaters over the weekend. The movie stands to make an additional $22.4 million by the time the weekend is over.

The website also suggests that Jurassic Park 3D will bring new and old fans alike to cinemas. The re-release of the classic Steven Spielberg flick is expected to earn a tidy $16.3 million at the box office.

Tyler Perry’s Temptation will likely land in fifth place with approximately $10 million in ticket sales. This should push the movie’s domestic gross to around $40 million. This isn’t too shabby considering the film cost around $20 million to produce.
