Wesley Snipes Released From Prison, Placed Under House Arrest

Actor Wesley Snipes has been released from prison.

The 50-year-old spent more than two years behind bars at the McKean Federal Correctional Institution in Pennsylvania. Snipes surrendered himself in December 2010 to serve a three-year sentence after being found guilty of tax evasion in 2008. The actor had failed to file tax returns on his $38 million income.

According to the Federal Bureau of Prisons, Snipes was taken out of McKean on April 2 and transferred to the New York Community Corrections, a home confinement residence for pre-release inmates who are still under federal custody.

The Blade star and married father of five will remain under house arrest until July 19, when his sentence will officially be over.

Incarceration hasn’t kept Snipes from finding acting work. He is set to star in the Andrew Goth film Gallowwalkers. The action-horror went into production in 2006, right around the time Snipes was starting to get into serious trouble over his tax problems. The film is described as the story of a mysterious gunman named Aman, who is the son of a nun who broke her covenant with God to ensure the child’s survival. Because of his mother’s disobedience, God curses Aman to be hunted by all those who have died by his hand. When he seeks revenge on the gang that killed his lover, they return from the dead and hunt him relentlessly.

The film got a red band trailer in February, and reportedly debuted in the United Kingdom last year, but details have been scant since then. In addition to the trailer, a few stills are floating around that show Snipes looking like an unconventional cowboy with dreadlocked hair, a fedora, and a leather jacket.

It is currently unknown when the film will be released in the United States.

Now that Wesley Snipes has been released from prison, do you think he will be able to revive his acting career?
