‘The Walking Dead’ Promotes Three To Series Regulars

Fans of The Walking Dead will be happy to learn that three familiar faces have been promoted for the series’ upcoming fourth season.

Chad Coleman (Tyreese) Sonequa Martin-Green (Sasha), and Emily Kinney (Beth) have all been promoted to series regulars. Kinney has been on the series since the second season; Coleman and Martin-Green joined in season 3.

Kinney will have a larger role in the fourth season as she continues to help the group care for baby Judith, the newborn daughter of Rick (Andrew Lincoln) and Lori (Sarah Wayne Callies). As the person closest in age to Carl (Chandler Riggs), their relationship will also receive more focus in season 4.

“[Rick] is letting the people of Woodbury in and trying to tell Carl that these people are like us, you have to be open to this and the only way to survive in this world is to have people and be in a community,” said Robert Kirkman, who created the comics and serves as a writer on the series. “That’s going to be a big part of season four.”

Tyreese, who was a fan favorite from the comics and made his first appearance in issue #7, played a central role in the season 3 finale, reuniting with Rick and helping save the children and women of Woodbury from the Governor (David Morrissey). Sasha’s character was slightly altered from the source material — in the comics, Sasha is Tyreese’s teenage daughter; in the series, she is his sister.

Morrissey was also recently promoted to series regular.

Melissa Ponzio, who plays Karen, the sole survivor of the Governor’s attack on his ragtag Woodbury army, will return as a recurring guest star when the series returns in October under new showrunner Scott Gimple.
