Former Soccer Coach Sentenced To 225 Years To Life In Prison

Los Angeles, CA – A former youth soccer coach, 44-year-old Jose Duarte, has been sentenced to 225 years to live in prison by Los Angeles Superior Court Judge Henry Hall.

The punitive ruling stemmed from a February 14 conviction on 20 felony counts of lewd acts with a child as well as five felony counts of showing harmful material to a minor.

As reported by CBS Los Angeles, the crimes involved the molestation of six boys between the ages of 11 and 14, over the span of May 2009 and June 2011.

Duarte was arrested after a 13-year-old boy reported he’d been sexually abused by the soccer coach and an investigation ensued in June 2011.

In March, a former Holyoke Catholic girls soccer coach in Chicopee, Massachusetts was arrested. Michael DuPont, 36, was detained on sexual exploitation of children charges.

A criminal complaint was filed on December 26, 2012 by an unnamed female minor’s mother, stating she’d discovered inappropriate e-mails going as far back as October 2012, some making requests the girl put on a webcam show.

The 14-year-old received the correspondence from a man who initiated contact in an online chatroom. He identified himself as “Mike” and told her he was a soccer coach in Massachusetts. Agents later identified “Mike” as Michael DuPont.

School officials at Holyoke Catholic cooperated in the investigation, though DuPont hadn’t worked there since November. In a statement they explained at no time were similar allegations or complaints made against DuPont during his tenure at the school. No evidence emerged in the investigation showing that DuPont had made any improper contact with any of the students while working for the school.

A former water-polo and swim team coach for Aragon High School in San Mateo, California was penalized for engaging in sexual activity with a 17-year-old student from October 2011 to May 2012.

Joshua David Tatro, 26, pled no contest in January to sexual penetration of a girl under 18 and sending pornographic material to a minor with the intent of seduction, both felonies.

Tatro was given two years in state prison and was ordered to register as a sexual offender. Amid sentencing Tatro fainted, according to the San Francisco Chronicle.
