Roger Ebert’s cancer has returned. The famous movie critic is taking a ” leave of presence” as he calls it.

Ebert was also hospitalized in the past when he suffered from cancer in his thyroid and salivary glands. He lost his lower jaw and ability to speak following several surgeries to remove the cancer.

Roger Ebert’s cancer returning will not slow down the famous movie critic:

“I am not going away. My intent is to continue to write selected reviews but to leave the rest to a talented team of writers…. What’s more, I’ll be able at last to do what I’ve always fantasized about doing: reviewing only the movies I want to review.”

Roger Ebert wrote more than 300 movie reviews last year. Roger Ebert’s cancer recurrence was discovered after the hip fracture made it difficult to walk. Besides movie reviews, Roger Ebert plans on writing about his own cancer:

“I may write about what it’s like to cope with health challenges and the limitations they can force upon you. So on bad days I may write about the vulnerability that accompanies illness. On good days, I may wax ecstatic about a movie so good it transports me beyond illness.”
