GOP Politician Dave Agema Refuses To Resign Over ‘Filthy Gay Lifestyle’ Article

Michigan Republican Dave Agema has said he will not resign after posting an article describing homosexuality as a “filthy lifestyle” on his Facebook page.

Agema, a Michigan Republican National Committeeman, argues he posted the article to his personal Facebook page to encourage discussion on gay issues within the GOP. The article, penned by an author identifying themselves as Dr. Frank Joseph, asserts that, “part of the homosexual agenda is to get the public to affirm their filthy lifestyle.”

Speaking to WWMT Newschannel 3, Agema was defiant about his choice to highlight the piece, and said his resignation would not be forthcoming:

“They say ‘Dave’s got to withdraw’ or ‘he’s got to resign,’ which I’m not going to do. Now’s the time to discuss [gay issues], that’s why I brought it up. Say, ‘oh, you’re dividing the party,’ no, I don’t think so; we’re standing on the principle of the party. If the party doesn’t stand on its principle, we’ll lose our base.”

The article posted by Agema, entitled “Everyone Should Know These Statistics On Homosexuals,” claims that half of all murders in big cities are committed by homosexuals. It states that homosexuals prey on children and that “many homosexuals admit that they are pedophiles” and argues, if a person is homosexual, it cuts years off their life.

While Agema said he agreed with much of what was written in the article, he did seek to detach himself from the comment that homosexuality was a “filthy” lifestyle. He told WWMT:

“They quoted as what somebody else said and attributed it to me; I didn’t say that. So, do I agree with everything that that guy said, and the way he said it in the article? No. But he gives a lot of statistics on the results of the health and mental and physical health of the lifestyle and what it causes.”
