4-Year-Old Fatally Shot Inside Car In South Florida

A four-year-old girl was fatally shot while she sat inside a car in South Florida on Saturday evening.

Police believe the shooting took place on Saturday night at around 6:10 pm. The little girl was rushed to an area hospital for treatment. Sadly, she later died as a result of her injury.

Miami-Dade Police said four-year-old Rahquel Carr was shot while seated inside a parked Mercedes-Benz. Investigators explained that there were several other children inside the car with her at the time. It’s unclear if any of the kids were somehow involved in the shooting.

Officers said the little girl was airlifted to Ryder Trauma Center at Jackson Memorial Hospital for treatment. Doctors were unable to save her life.

“We will be looking at who this firearm belonged to, where this firearm was in the vehicle at the time, along with who was present when this child was shot,” Miami-Dade Police spokesman Roy Rutland explained.

He added, “Obviously those kids will be interviewed as well, and that is a very, very important component to this investigation as well.”

It’s currently believed that the shot came from inside the car. Rahquel Carr was struck in the upper part of her body when the gun went off. Investigators theorize that one of the children inside the car may have accidentally pulled the trigger.

Several family members arrived at the little girl’s home on Saturday night to offer support. Sonia Wheeler, the child’s godmother, was one of the people who showed up after the shooting took place.

“Someone called my daughter, and told her she got shot It’s horrible, it’s sad,” Wheeler explained.

The Miami-Dade County Medical Examiner Department is expected to perform an autopsy on the child’s body. Authorities are still investigating what led to the four-year-old getting fatally shot while she sat inside the parked car in South Florida.
