Bejeweled Live Launches For Windows 8

Bejeweled Live has finally brought the popular strategy game Bejeweled to the Windows 8 operating system. The release was announced on Friday, March 29.

The Windows 8 version of the game is modeled after Bejeweled 3, an option already available on other platforms.

Heather Hazen, executive producer for the Bejeweled franchise, said in a statement:

“We’re confident that the beautiful new design and solid foundation of Windows 8 will provide a fantastic experience with Bejeweled Live.”

Bejeweled Live players are given the option of three different game modes: Classic, Diamond Mond, and Butterflies. The Butterflies option plays closely to the classic version but has some gems turn into colored butterflies that can take flight around the board during gameplay. Diamond Mine involves digging yourself out of a Diamond Mine as you play.

Turning to the social aspect of Bejeweled Live for Windows 8, player are given access to a leadersboard that shows their own top scores and the scores of their friends.

Bejeweled Live for Windows 8 is available today and will set you back $4.99.

The game couldn’t come at a better time for Microsoft. Last week we announced that the Windows 8 and Windows RT stores now feature 50,000 app options. However, many users have complained that many of those apps are bad ports of Google Android apps.

If Microsoft plans to compete in the app store business it must continue to receive fully supported Windows 8 apps from well-known titles. Given that Bejeweled is one of the best known titles on the planet the release is a big win for Microsoft.
