The Bikram sex scandal has caught the attention of the folks at Next Media Animation, the Taiwanese CGI studio that provides a satirical, rapid-fire take on current events.
As The Inquistir has previously reported, Bikram Choudhury, the founder of Bikram yoga (ironically also known as “hot” yoga), has been accused in a lawsuit of sexual harassment and discrimination by one of his former students. The scandal is said to have sent shock waves through the yoga community.
The 67-year-old millionaire yoga instructor is said to allegedly have made unwanted advances (that included alleged assault as well as inappropriate comments) toward student Sarah Baughn, 28, over a four-year period starting in 2005. When she let Bikram — who claimed they were linked in a past life — know that she wasn’t interested in him sexually and did not submit to his repeated demands for sex, Baughn said his demeanor changed. She alleges that he humiliated her in front of others students among other things and held her back from advanced teacher training seminars.
Baughn is also alleging a cover-up by others involved in the yoga movement: “Baughn — who has won many competitive Yoga championships — has included Bikram’s wife Rajashree (the president of USA Yoga, the organization that governs competitive Yoga) and Bikram’s Yoga College of India, because its staff repeatedly pushed her to keep quiet about their boss’ behavior. Baughn also claims that she was not Choudhury’s only victim.”
Bikram would not be the first guru that allegedly got frisky with his followers. As just one example, Joshu Sasaki, a revered Zen Buddhist master age 105 who has taught in the United States since 1965, has been accused of groping female students for decades during private training sessions.
Bikram Choudhury has as yet not made a public comment about the lawsuit.
