B.J. Novak Joins ‘Spider-Man’ Franchise

With The Office coming to a close, B.J. Novak, the producer, writer and the ensemble player, isn’t hurting for work. Novak has just scored a cushy and probably his biggest role yet in the new Spider-Man film.

Novak is said to have join the second installment in the Marc Webb directed sequel The Amazing Spider-Man 2. So far it’s not yet known who Novak will play, but one dapper photo released by Webb shows that he will definitely be in the film in at least some aspect.

Although we aren’t sure who Novak is playing in The Amazing Spider-Man 2, we’ll bet that news of his character will be coming out soon. Filming of the sequel started in February, and since then Webb has been teasing his Twitter followers by cryptically tweeting images from the set.

Novak, who is known more for the sarcastic character Ryan Howard on The Office, joins a stellar cast for The Amazing Spider-Man 2. So far the cast includes character actor Chris Cooper as Norman Osbourn, Paul Giamatti as Rhino, Jamie Foxx as villain Electro, and breakout star Dane DeHaan as Harry Osborn, who we all know is Spidey’s best friend turned Green Goblin.

Andrew Garfield and Emma Stone will reprise their roles as Spider-Man and Gwen Stacy, but their love story won’t be so simple. Spider-Man’s other love Mary Jane Watson will be introduced in this sequel. As Spider-Man fans know, the role of Mary Jane Watson, also known as MJ, was originated by Kirsten Dunst in Sam Raimi’s Spider-Man franchise. This time around a slightly younger Shailene Woodley (The Descendants) will come into the picture as the red head.

The Amazing Spider-Man is due out in theaters for a box office hit on May 2, 2014. It’s a long way away but we’ll be sure to hold you over with developing news.
