Angelina Jolie squashed rumors that she and Brad Pitt got married in a secret ceremony. The rumors started after Jolie was seen with a simple gold band on her finger instead of her diamond engagement ring.

Jolie sported the new ring while on a trip to Africa this week. But when a reporter asked her about the new gold band, Jolie made it clear it was not a wedding ring.

Jolie was in Africa to meet with girls in eastern Congo on a humanitarian effort. Her goal was to bring attention to the problem of rape in the region. Jolie and Pitt have six kids together. The duo have been together for seven years and speculation has surrounded them frequently about when they will get married.

While no official date for Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt has been set, Pitt admitted in November that the two would be getting married “soon.” Pitt also revealed that he is the one planning all the wedding details. Pitt added of the situation:

“I am getting more pressure from my kids, and it is something I want to do within their lifetime, but I also feel like the time has come.”

However, the wedding has not happened yet. Jolie’s new gold band was actually a symbol as she embarked on her humanitarian trip. Jolie has a heart for Africa. Her humanitarian work began in 2001 while she was filming Laura Croft: Tomb Raider in Cambodia. After filming was over, the actress contacted the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees for more information on how she could help.

Jolie was named a UNHCR Goodwill Ambassador that same year. Since then, Angelina Jolie has made numerous humanitarian trips around the world. Her first visits were chronicled in her book Notes of My Travels. She also regularly attends the World Refugee Day in Washington, D.C.
