Snoop Lion Speaks Out In Support Of Gay Marriage

Add one more person to the list of those supporting gay marriage — Snoop Lion.

The rapper formerly known as Snoop Dogg has undergone a transformation, now embracing peace, speaking out against guns and violence, and claiming to be a descendant of Bob Marley. Fitting in with that new lifestyle, the rapper/reggae singer is taking a live-and-let-live approach to marriage.

“People can do what they want and as they please,” Snoop Lion said about the fight to overturn California’s gay marriage ban. “Satisfy yourself accordingly. I have no issues with nobody, I live for me and I live my life doing what I do, so you should have the right to do whatever you want to do.”

This is of course the same Snoop Lion who earlier in the month said he wanted to meet up with former President Bill Clinton and smoke pot. Snoop extended an invitation to the president, who famously admitted he once smoked marijuana but did not inhale.

Whether or not the famous Long Beach, California, native carries much sway in the same-sex marriage debate, he does add to a rapidly growing list of those supporting marriage equality. As the Supreme Court debates the constitutionality of gay marriage bans, many politicians and celebrities are speaking out in support of gay marriage.

That includes a number of Republicans and others who previously opposed gay marriage. GOP strategist Karl Rove has even said that the fundamental shift could result in a 2016 Republican presidential candidate in favor of gay marriage.

Snoop Lion also has an ally in the thousands of Facebook users who have changed their avatar in support of marriage equality. The red equal sign was introduced by the Human Rights Campaign, an organization which has set up demonstrations to support marriage equality. The avatar quickly became a hit on Facebook, with LGBT advocates like George Takei signing on.
