Disney’s ‘Planes’ Releases New Images, Unveils Cast List [Photos]

Disney has unveiled new images and the cast list for its upcoming animated feature Planes.

The studio revealed last month that Dane Cook would take over as the lead in the forthcoming film. Two and a Half Men star Jon Cryer was originally slated to star.

However, Disney later decided the character needed more of an edge. Cryer’s work was scrapped and Cook was bought on-board.

“Dane Cook brings unmatched charisma and brilliant comedic timing and instincts to the character. He gives Dusty a great edge,” the studio said in a statement.

Disney’s Planes will also feature a number of familiar voices when it arrives on the big screen later this year. Included in the cast are Stacy Keach, Cedric the Entertainer, Teri Hatcher, Brad Garrett, Roger Craig Smith, Gabriel Iglesias, Carlos Alazraqui, Julia Louis-Dreyfus, John Cleese, Priyanka Chopra, and Sinbad.

Val Kilmer and Anthony Edwards will portray fighter jets in the movie. This is a nod their performances in the 80s action classic Top Gun.

In order to get moviegoers familiar with the characters they’ll encounter in the movie, the studio has unveiled a new batch of images. The pictures can be found in the gallery below.

Disney describes the movie as follows:

“Dusty is a cropdusting plane who dreams of competing in a famous aerial race. The problem? He is hopelessly afraid of heights. With the support of his mentor Skipper and a host of new friends, Dusty sets off to make his dreams come true.”

Planes originally started out as a direct-to-video spin-off of Disney-Pixar’s Cars franchise. However, the studio later decided the film was good enough to release into theaters.

The first trailer for the film has been included below.

Disney’s Planes is expected to fly into theaters on August 9. Are you looking forward to the Cars spin-off?
