Detroit Lions to have no QB Coach in 2010

So what does a team that has only won 2 games in the last two seasons do to prepare their young QB for his sophomore NFL season? If you answered lose their QB coach to a college gig, and not hire another one, congratulations your just might be dumb enough to run the Detroit Lions. Matthew Stafford very well could be a great NFL QB, but the Lions are never going to give him the tools he needs to build a great career. For those of you who sit and wonder why, so many Detroiters hate the Lions, questionable decisions like this one is always the answer.

A young QB in this league needs more mentorship, not less. Anyone who thinks Offensive Coordinator Scott Linehan can build and implement his offense to the other players and mentor young Matthew at the same time is sadly mistaken. These are two separate jobs, and they require two separate people to get them done.

The QB Coach has to be the young QB’s friend, his confidant while the evil head coach and Offensive Coordinator work to install their system on the rest of the players. It is a formula that works quite well, so of course the Lions want nothing to do with it. Hey it’s not like they signed Stafford to a 72 million dollar contract right? Oh wait they did.

In other Lions news they have decided to fire the Defensive Coordinator and let the Strength and Conditioning Coach handle the defense, and have promoted the ticket girl to head of college scouting. Sure maybe I am kidding, but would it really surprise anyone that much if they did? Everyone can guess what is coming next right? Bad Football teams make bad decisions. Plain and simple.
