Jamie Dixon Signs 10-Year Contract Extension

Jamie Dixon, the head coach of the Pittsburgh Panthers basketball team secured himself a 10-year contract extension with the school on Saturday.

The new contract comes despite the fact that his team had yet another less than impressive performance in the NCAA Tournament. On Friday, Dixon’s team was shown the door in the first round, getting dominated by the lower seeded Wichita State Shockers.

A recent radio report says that the long time head coach got the extension thanks in large part to feelers that had been put out by USC. The Trojans are looking for a new head coach after firing theirs during the regular season.

Jamie Dixon is actually a Southern California native and some assumed that another early exit could mean that Pitt had grown tired of Dixon.

The fact that the team has made it possible for Dixon to serve as the team’s head coach beyond 2023 indicates the school still has faith in their head coach.

Dixon has been one of the most successful basketball coaches in the Big East conference. With Pittsburgh, the coach has posted a record of 262-86. That record amounts to the best winning percentage in the history of the conference.

The Panthers went 24-9 this season and posted a 12-6 record in the conference. Despite that sparkling record, Pitt was given just an eight seed in the NCAA Tournament.

It appears that the selection committee knew something that the general public couldn’t see, since they were defeated by the ninth seeded Wichita State Shockers in the second round of this years’ tournament.

If there has been one weak spot in Dixon’s career record, it has been in the Big Dance. The Pittsburgh head coach is just 11-9 in the tournament. The Panthers haven’t managed to get past the opening weekend since 2009.

Do you think Jamie Dixon deserves such a long extension.
