Coffee-Grounds-In-Milkshake: New In-N-Out Burger ‘Secret Menu’ Item?

Next time you go to an In-N-Out Burger, ask for the “coffee-grounds-in-milkshake.” It’s not on the menu, but by all accounts, it’s ridiculously delicious.

The eccentric burger chain is bored with its menu and its secret menu, and is reportedly “shaking” things up with a hot new item. Certain locations have been experimenting with their very own “Frozen Mocha” shake, made with whatever they have on-hand.

The “coffee-grounds-in-milkshake” shake is pretty much exactly what it sounds like. Here’s the recipe as of now: You receive two-thirds of a chocolate shake and one-third of a vanilla shake in separate cups. With that, you get a little condiment cup full of fresh coffee grounds.

Mix them all together, and you’ve got a genuine frozen mocha milkshake, In-N-Out Burger style.

The experimental drink isn’t an official part of the “secret menu” yet, but it has proven so popular, highly-caffeinated In-N-Out patrons are practically begging the chain to make it “unofficial” in increasing numbers.

In-N-Out Burger is primarily a West Coast phenomenon, with stores in Southern California, Arizona, Nevada, Utah, and Texas. They have consistently resisted going full-on national, so chances are, if you’re reading this, you have no idea what we’re talking about with all this “secret menu” business.

Here’s a quick lesson on In-N-Out Burger: They have their official menu, printed on the boards and whatnot, but they also have the unofficial “secret menu.” Every In-N-Out location can make secret menu items, and they’re usually just modifications of their standard menu items.

Examples of a “secret menu” item are: The “Flying Dutchman,” which is two meat patties and two slices of cheese without a bun or condiments, Neapolitan shakes, and grilled cheese sandwiches.

If you do live near an In-N-Out, or are familiar with the chain, then you might be wondering, as The Consumerist notes, whether the restaurant will start selling “fans-only” items (otherwise known as the “secret-secret menu” since the “secret menu” is not so secret).

What do you think? Should the “coffee-grounds-in-milkshake” be added to the In-N-Out secret menu? Should it be a “true fans only” item?
