‘Mass Effect’: BioWare Producer On New Game And Movie
BioWare’s producer Casey Hudson opened up on Mass Effect; the new game and the feature film.
At PAX East today, BioWare announced that the new Mass Effect videogame would be “fresh and new.” Casey Hudson is serving as the game’s primary producer alongside BioWare Montreal.
Hudson said, “We are starting to get ready to develop another Mass Effect game. We want to be able to give fans an opportunity to get back into the world. And these things you’ve come to know and love about the Mass Effect experience.”
Mass Effect was one of the first videogames that put the player in charge of a space colony, with a story spanning what seemed the universe. The space-borne RPG was so inventive and original that it spawned two successful sequels and a myriad of fans.
The game has been so successful, in fact, that Casey Hudson is confident in the next step in media, turning the videogame into a feature film. He confirmed that a Mass Effect movie is still in the works, though no details on the story or casting have yet been released. Even the release date is as of yet unknown. Hudson comments, “Hopefully it should be seen as a good thing. Because what we’re looking at, I think, are the right things to make sure it’s going to be great. It’s going to be really special.”
We can only hope that a Mass Effectmovie does better than most videogame-based movies. Only one franchise has been successful enough to spawn four sequels with a fifth on its way (Resident Evil), even though it’s still a critically despised series.
Casey Hudson also revealed that BioWare Montreal is working on another project that probably isn’t the next Mass Effect. Upon reading that, Mass Effect fans probably just sat up. He adds, “That’s kind of our next thing. We’re focusing on delivering something new, the way we did at the very beginning of Mass Effect.”
