Britney Spears’ Trial Drama Ends

Thanks to an indecisive jury, Britney Spears’ driver’s license drama has ended in mistrial. The jury’s extensive deliberation led to a fresh round of closing arguments today, after which the jury was instructed work towards a unanimous decision. Britney had been charged with driving without a valid license, which stemmed from her hit-and-run whoopsie in 2007.

J. Michael Flannagan, Spears’ lawyer, told OK! mag that he was trying to “escape this case.” He elaborated, saying “I’ve tried about 500 cases, and I’ve never seen something like this. I’ve seen hung juries before but never have I had to give additional closing arguments for a case like this. They should have declared this a mistrial a day ago. I looked at the jury, and they did not look happy. I did not see a lot of happy faces.”

On the bright side, at least Britney’s off the hook (for now). With “Womanizer” making a surprising leap from #96 to #1 last week, things are looking up.
