Kristen Wiig Goes Indie With Comedy ‘Welcome To Me’

Since leaving Saturday Night Live, Kristen Wiig has opened up her schedule in a big way and jam packed it with a few promising films. Before leaving SNL, Wiig solidified herself as a star with Paul Feig’s mega hit Bridesmaids. Now it looks like Wiig is trying her hand at a true indie film.

Reports are coming in that Wiig is set to take a lead in the indie comedy Welcome to Me, which is said to be about “a woman with dissociative personality disorder who wins the lottery and decides to spend her winnings on a cable access talk show about her life.”

Unlike her success in the ensemble comedy Bridesmaids, this film seems like it will all go on Wiig’s shoulders, which seems to suit Wiig if her sketch comedy characters are any consolation. Here at The Inquisitr, we can’t wait to see what Wiig turns out for this film. As it is the people around the production seem just as promising. The film is said to be produced by Will Ferell and Adam McKay’s Sanchez Productions and will be written by Eliot Laurence, and McKay’s wife, and Jeremy Piven’s sister, Shira Piven.

In addition starring in films, Kristen Wiig may just conquer the book world too. Like her fellow former SNL cast mates Tina Fey and Amy Poehler, Wiig is at the top of publishers list to be the next comedian-turned-author. Perhaps this will also be in her future? Just from her film career alone, it seems like everything she touches turns to gold.

As far as her day job, so far we aren’t sure when Welcome to Me is going to start production, but, as it is, Wiig has her hands completely full. In addition to Welcome to Me, Wiig has Girl Most Likely, with Darren Cris, and box office hopefuls Despicable Me 2, The Secret Life of Walter Mitty, and Anchorman 2.
