Who are the five best QB’s of all time?

Whenever I have this discussion with my friend, we usually spend all night looking up stats, screaming at one another, and calling each other morons. While that is always a lot of fun, I often wonder if a definitive list of the top five NFL QB’s of all time will ever be completed. Probably not because, so much of it has to do with the unique opinion of the fan making the list. That is probably the case with my list, but why not give it a go anyways.

1. John Elway- John was a special kind of QB, he was good enough all by himself to make a team win, and all by himself he took the Denver Broncos to three Super Bowls. Once the front office figured out they had to get some pieces to put around him they won two consecutive Super Bowls. Not many QB’s have taken five teams to the Super Bowl, and after winning two in a row he was man enough to call it a career. Going out on top gives him the edge over many of the others on this list.

2. Joe Montana- QB’s have to be field generals, and that was what Joe was. He was a great QB, and the player who got me interested the game of football. Joe won four Super Bowls, but always was surrounded by an all star cast.

3. Dan Marino- He went to a Super Bowl his rookie year, but never made it back. He never won a NFL title, but he was without doubt one of the greatest passer that has ever played the game. In his career he threw for 61,361 yards.

4. Johnny Unitas- What can you say this guy is a legend he threw for over 40,000 yards and won two NFL Championships and a Super Bowl. That is a pretty strong resume, beyond the fact he played for 18 years.

5. Peyton Manning- He is the best QB of the current NFL generation and has put together an excellent resume already. Had the Colts allowed him to finish a undefeated season that would have firmly cemented him among the top five best QB’s of all time.
