Russell Brand Says Marriage to Katy Perry Was ‘A Drag’

Russell Brand said during a recent radio interview that his marriage to Katy Perry was “a drag.”

The comedian made an appearance during a program for the Teenage Cancer Trust on XFM. Brand touched on the problems he experienced during his marriage to the singer during his chat on the radio show.

“That marriage was shaky from the get-go, before I’d even got off the elephant,” Russell Brand said of his short-lived marriage to Katy Perry.

He added, “It was a drag, man. Let me tell you a thing about marriage. Marriage is a bond that can last up to 14 months. It is a sacred 14-month arrangement. Begins on an elephant — ends in a newspaper.”

Although everyone in the studio had a good laugh at Brand’s expense, the comedian defended his commitment to the relationship. He claimed he did his best to keep the marriage together.

“Don’t cackle, I tried my hardest. How come you know exactly how long my marriage was? Was you timing it?” Brand remarked.

Russell Brand and Katy Perry tied the knot in October of 2010. Unfortunately for the couple, their marriage soon turned sour. The pair eventually split in 2012.

The comedian’s comments about his ex-wife arrive shortly after reports that Perry and new beau John Mayer have called it quits.

“It’s not over until it’s over. You have to see how things play out,” insiders explained to Us Weekly. “She’s leaving the window open. They have both been so focused on work.”

“She’s sad. She’s been hiding out and leaning on close friends,” a source added.

This isn’t the first time Katy Perry and John Mayer have decided to end their relationship. The pair first split back in August of 2012. However, they eventually reconciled and were soon spotted out and about together.
