The Michelle Shocked slur against homosexuals during some of her concerts has caused most Michelle Shocked US tour dates to be canceled.
Michelle Shocked used to be politically progressive, and her song writing reflected these beliefs, but when she became a Christian her beliefs began to change.
As previously reported by The Inquisitr, the Michelle Shocked slur started when the singer chose decided to share her thoughts on Proposition 8 with an audience in San Francisco, of all places. In her opinion, gay marriage will lead to the end of the modern world.
This is what Michelle Shocked told the crowd that night:
“I live in fear that the world will be destroyed if gays are allowed to marry…. When they stop Prop 8 and force priests at gunpoint to marry gays, it will be the downfall of civilization, and Jesus will come back. You are going to leave here and tell people, ‘Michelle Shocked said God hates faggots.'”
Because of the Michelle Shocked slur, Billboard has confirmed that 10 out of 11 of the singer’s upcoming concert dates have been canceled by the venues themselves. Meander’s Kitchen in Seattle called her speech in San Francisco a “homophobic performance.”
Michelle Shocked herself has responded to the controversy using Twitter. Shocked says, “I’m abiding, letting everyone’s true colors show before I undertake a personal response to each & every tweet…. Am neither against a woman’s right to choose nor gay marriage. Am a fundamentalist tho”
