Authorities Warn More Tornadoes Could Strike Los Angeles Tonight

The National Weather Service has warned that further tornadoes could strike the broader Los Angeles area this afternoon (January 19) and tonight.

In its latest statement, the NWS warns that the frontal system sweeping through Southern California offers “atmospheric conditions [that] will be favorable for isolated weak tornadoes which could either form overland or move ashore after forming as waterspouts.”

Although there is no current tornado warning in place (at 4:55pm PST), the NWS urges residents to “stay tuned for the latest information on the potential for strong thunderstorms” that might produce tornadoes.

The latest warning follows a day of chaos in Los Angeles as multiple tornadoes and water spouts cause mild damage in coast areas and Riverside, and heavy rain bought widespread flooding.
