Anchor Reads Proposal While On The News, Essentially Proposes To Herself

A Fox affiliate anchor read her own proposal on the evening news, believing she was rattling off a breaking news story — which she was, in a sense.

The anchor reads the proposal rather quickly in the below clip, and it’s clear Jillian Pavlica doesn’t really understand what’s going on until the words are out of her mouth.

Pavilica, the anchor, reads the proposal flanked by two co-workers and seems to really think some sort of breaking news event is occurring. We don’t often think on what an anchor’s job is like when news is happening live, and watching the clip you realize how quickly anchors have to read and process their information as it’s read.

The clip begins, and the anchor reads the proposal before the actual words she’s saying sink in. Somewhat adorably, Pavlica starts by saying that “Fox 54 has just learned that a Huntsville news anchor is being proposed on live TV right now,” and the two fellow anchors make a quick exit as the anchor herself realizes she’s describing what’s about to unfold.

Hastily, Pavlica’s now-fiance comes on set, and as she starts to get the picture, she tears up. The man tells her:

“For years you’ve told me to be patient, that our time would come. Finally all of our pieces are coming together and I can’t picture a day in my life not waking up with you by my side. Jillian Pavlica, will you marry me?”

After the anchor reads her own proposal, she becomes visibly choked up and moved, and after the man recites his speech, she replies, “yes, because you don’t want me to say okay.”

As Pavlica and her fiance speak, the segment continues, with the weatherman predicts “here in the Fox 54 studios, a hundred percent chance of a few tears of joy.”
