Morrissey Cancels Tour In US Over Health Concerns

Morrissey has cancelled the remainder of his tour in the United States due to health concerns.

The former Smiths singer reportedly scrapped 22 shows in the US after suffering a series of medical problems. His spokesperson said Morrissey had no choice but to cancel the tour.

“Despite his best efforts to try to continue touring, Morrissey has to take a hiatus and will not be able to continue on the rest of the tour. Morrissey thanks all of his fans for their well wishes and thoughts,” publicist Lauren Papapietro said in a statement.

Morrissey’s rep said the singer had experienced a number of recent “medical mishaps.” The former Smiths frontman has reportedly suffered from a bleeding ulcer, Barrett’s esophagus, and double pneumonia in the past few months. Concerns for Morrissey’s well-being forced him to cancel the remainder of his tour dates.

Those who purchased tickets to the cancelled shows will be given refunds for their purchases. It’s unclear if Morrissey intends to reschedule any of these shows.

The recent cancellation comes roughly a month after the singer scrapped several other shows in the US. Morrissey explained in a letter to fan site True to You that the downtime would allow him to prepare for the remainder of his tour.

“I am terribly sorry that the next three shows have been moved back. The worst is for the best. I am certainly on the road to recovery, but caution and prevention demand further IV blood work lest I keel over and die before your very eyes,” the singer said last February.

He added, “I apologize to an almost annoying degree for any trouble I’ve caused to anyone by way of travel plans and dog-sitters and ticket-outlay and re-molded hairstyles.”

Morrissey has been in the spotlight quite a bit in recent months. In addition to skipping his Jimmy Kimmel Live! appearance, the singer recently criticized Beyonce over her decision to purchase animal skin sneakers.
