Bomb Squad Called To Akron Plant, Bottles Of Picric Acid Found [Breaking]


Akron, OH -The bomb squad was called to Meggitt Aircraft Braking Systems in Akron. The emergency call was in reference to a hazardous materials situation at the Northern Ohio plant. A worker at the plant reportedly found two bottles of Picric Acid. This type of acid is used in the making of explosives.

The Picric Acid found at the Meggitt Braking Systems plant had already started to crystalize at the top of the bottles, according to the Summit County Sheriff’s Office. Hazmat and local fire crews were also called to Akron plant. A mandatory evacuation was ordered at the Ohio plant.

Meggitt Aircraft Braking Systems is located near an airport. Akron firefighters and the Summit County bomb squad are reporting no injuries at the Akron plant on Massillon Road. Sheriff’s Office representative Bill Holland noted in a release that emergency responders are currently in the process of safely removing the bottle of picric acid from the scene.
