Gaming Console Sales Have Biggest Month Ever. Nintendo Wii Leads The Pack

Gaming console sales numbers for December 2009 were just released and unlike the pitiful month of October, the industry saw a huge increase in console sales, giving the console industry their best sales month in gaming history.

According to NPD, the “biggest sales month ever” came with a 4% jump in overall console sales, with Nintendo leading the way with the Wii selling 3.81 million units (December 2008 saw 2.15 million units for the same month). While Nintendo DS units came in with 3.31 million pieces moved, The PS3 at 1.36 million units and the Xbox 360 at 1.31 million consoles sold.

It could be a nice recovery year in 2010 for console manufacturers, especially considering the number of game sales they’ll be expecting with an increase in the number of consoles now out on the market. Although the numbers shouldn’t completely surprise given the huge price discounts and bundle offers given out over the holiday buying season. [PCWorld]
