Emma Stone and her Amazing Spider-Man 2 co-star Andrew Garfield are dating in real life, but some sources say there’s trouble in paradise now that the film’s new co-star, Shailene Woodley, has arrived on set.
Speculation over a potential rift in the relationship began several weeks ago when Emma Stone posted a bizarre tweet. The tweet was a jumbled anagram for “Andrew and Shailene sitting in a tree,” and was deleted soon after it was posted. Stone rarely uses her Twitter, so the post raised some red flags.
Emma Stone plays Gwen Stacy, the doomed love interest of Andrew Garfield’s Peter Parker/Spider-Man. In the sequel, Woodley plays Mary Jane Watson, another potential love interest for Parker, and his eventual wife in the comic books. Apparently, Woodley and Garfield have gotten comfortable with each other, and sparks are rumored to be flying between them.
“They really hit it off,” a source told Perez.
Despite the rumors, Stone has had nothing but compliments for her co-star, and set photos have shown the two laughing together in between takes.
“I’m in it, Andrew is in it, they just cast Dane DeHaan as Harry Osborn who is such a great actor. And Shailene Woodley as Mary Jane, who’s also wonderful. So there’s all that and the script is very, very good,” Stone said of Amazing Spider-Man 2.
Stone is an intensely private individual, so if there’s trouble in her relationship, it’s not likely we’d hear it from her. Still, a random tweet and one source saying “Oh, Woodley and Garfield look like they’ve gotten close” is hardly enough to go on, so we’re assuming everything is fine until we hear something more concrete.
In other Amazing Spider-Man 2 news, New York Governor Andrew Cuomo announced Wednesday that the sequel to the 2012 blockbuster will be the largest movie production ever to film in the state.
The governor’s office said that the Marc Webb-directed film is expected to result in 3,500 new jobs in New York and the casting of 11,000 extras. The movie is filming in Manhattan and Brooklyn, and is also building “massive sets” at three different studios in Long Island before production moves to upstate New York to film additional scenes. Another 250 crew members and a “few hundred” extras are expected to be hired there.
The Amazing Spider-Man 2 comes out next year. Do you think that Shailene Woodley and Andrew Garfield are getting a little too close for Emma Stone’s comfort?
