‘All The Boys Love Mandy Lane’ Finally Gets US Release Date

All the Boys Love Mandy Lane is finally going to be hitting theaters in the United States this summer. The teen slasher flick starring Amber Heard finally got a North American release date after being in limbo for seven years.

The movie, which would have been the directorial debut of Jonathan Levine will finally hit theaters late this summer. Since creating this horror movie and watching it get snapped up and shelved by the Weinstein Company, Levine has made sthe commercially popular and critically acclaimed moves 50/50 and Warm Bodies.

While proving his directing chops wasn’t the stated reason for finally giving the go order for this film, it certainly couldn’t have hurt. All the Boys Love Mandy Lane is about a group of highschoolers who invited the ultra popular Mandy Lane (Heard) to their party on a secluded ranch.

Lane is the school’s good girl who has gotten quite a bit of attention since she returned to school after her junior year. At the party, the revelers begin to be killed off by a mysterious presence one by one. When the movie premiered at the Toronto Film Festival it was highly sought after.

Bidding by the bigger studios got so heated that the auction went into the wee hours of the morning. The Weinstein Company finally won out, anteing $3.5 million up front and promising to put it on 800 screens. After securing the rights, the Weinsteins’ inexplicably held onto it and never released the film in the US.

The Weinstein Company (TWC) had a bad test screening that made the studio’s higher up get caught between wanting to go ahead and release it or give it the straight to video treatment. TWC sold the rights to another studio who promptly went bankrupt and Mandy Lane bounced back and forth for a number of years.

Eventually, TWC partnering with Radius picked up the rights again and this time the company plans on releasing the horror flick to the masses. While it might seem difficult to get people excited for a movie thats been gathering dust for seven years, having Amber Heard attached might help.

Since shooting Mandy Lane, Heard has made quite a career for herself, appearing in both television programs and movies. Coincidently, it appears that Mandy Lane will be coming out right around the same time another movie she’s starring in will hit theaters.

In Machete Kills, Heard will appear alongside a star studded cast that includes Danny Trejo, Alexa Vega and Charlie Sheen. Machete Kills is due out in September while nothing is known about Mandy Lane’s release except that it will be later in the summer months.

All the Boys Love Mandy Lane is expected to be released in at least the top 50 markets in theaters and it will be simultaneously released on VOD. Check out the seven year old trailer below.
