Mike Shanahan’s Redskins to do list

Mike Shanahan has a lot of work to do to fix the ills of the Washington Redskins. However the job may not be as big as many people think. They already have a pretty good defense in place, if Shanahan can find a good defensive coordinator not much attention will have to be paid to that side of the ball. Short term the defense is not he biggest concern, the Redskin offense on the other hand is going to need all of Shanahan’s offensive genius.

Number one on the to do list has to be upgrading the offensive line. If the 2010 NFL draft falls right for the Redskins they could end up in a position to take a top notch O-lineman with the fourth overall pick. Right now it looks like Iowa’s Bryan Bulaga will be available there and he would certainly be an upgrade and piece for which the Skins could build around.

Next up on the to do list is the find a Defensive coordinator who can maximize the talents of Albert Hayensworth. Albert has openly complained about the way he has being used, and he has not lived up to becoming the highest paid NFL defensive player, and Owner Daniel Snyder needs to get his money worth out of this pick. Shanahan must find a defensive scheme that Hayensworth will buy into. As a team they need a scheme where they play a little more unified.

Next up is for Shanahan and his staff to make a number of decisions on younger players. These include TE Fred Davis, WR Devin Thomas, WR Malcolm Kelley, DB’s Kevin Barnes, Kareem Moore and Justin Tryon, DE Rob Jackson, LB HB Blades, and DT’s Anthony Montgomery and Kedric Golston. Shanahan will have to work to evaluate them, and decide where this team needs to upgrade.

On top of all that Shanahan must find a way to work with GM Bruce Allen. They have to work together to do all of this, and be on the same page. IF they cannot than this entire exercise is doomed to fail.
